Dissecting Scalp Cellulitis (DSC) - GRAPHIC Warning

- a rare non lethal disease which we do not wish on anyone. Dissecting Scalp Cellulitis as the name implies results in an inflammation of the scalps hair follicles and an accompanying skin irritation. The causes are not entirely known, but as DSC often appears with acne conglobata and hidradenitis suppurativa it hints towards a common pathogenic mechanism of abnormal follicular keratinization and occlusion interlinked with bacterial infections. In addition, 90% of all patients are black men mostly in their 20s to 40s. In belows case however we have a white man who has suffered incredibly under the disease and thus has chosen the most extreme treatment options available. - He opted for a scalp replacement therapy as you will see in the pictures below. I WARN you before starting the video or clicking on his photobook. The pictures are very graphic and if you are not used to seeing them, they are quite disturbing.

As the disease is chronic and relapsing most of the treatment is supportive and tries to deal with pain and inflammation relief. In several cases tumor necrosis factor blockers, selective hair follicle removement and acne relief medication Isotretinoin have been utilised effectivly but conclusive data is yet insufficient as relapses might occur after many months and are not reported. In severe cases a scalp replacement is the last resort. In this case skin tissue grafted from the patient's leg has successfully been implanted onto the patients skull as you can see in the supporting pictures. We wish him the best and DSC is a thing of the past for him
