Real-Time Visualization of Neuronal Activity
A recent paper in Current Biology has to my knowledge for the first time shown live images of a thought process with such precision. In an impressive leap forward in terms of spatial and temporal resolution Japanese researcher modified GCaMPs (a genetically modified calcium indicator for calcium imaging). A video abstract and the whole paper can be found here at the Journal of Current Biology. Yes it is only in zebrafish and the correlated perception of a food hunting neuronal activity process (hype!) is a bit fishy but it is without question a great advance for calcium imaging.
